Basically it is a warning to be financially VERY WELL PREPARED for a long wait before you see any money. I shall explain, using a real-world example!
The Long Road to Royalties
You release your game – say in December. Which we did 
Your first full quarter for sales is January – March. We didn’t hit the thresholds (Boo!).
Our next full quarter for sales is April – June. We most likely won’t hit the thresholds (Panic!). We are very very close though.
Our next full quarter for sales is July – September. We should hit the thresholds. Yay!
So far 9 months without money. We then must wait a further 30-days for the statement (and it never arrives early). Then another 30-days for payment (I doubt it is paid early)!
So 11 months of waiting…
See what I mean by making sure that you are financially well prepared!
